The final event associated with the exhibit, Katherine Dunham: A Life of Dance, Activism and Anthropology, will take place in Lovejoy Library’s Friends Corner. Dunham trained dance instructors, Jack Williams and Andrea Smythe, with master drummer Gerald Williams, will share their experiences from Dunham’s ESL years, and lead a demonstration of dance and drumming by young students in SIUE’s ESL Center for the Performing Arts program. This is a great opportunity to get a first hand view of Dunham dance, as well as to catch the exhibit before its closing.
